Something is wrong with me.
While the professor read a passage from the Tolstoy book we’re reading, some errant synapse misfired inside my brain, and onto the tracks of my train of thought crashed the tune, “Seeeeeea monkeys in flight- Afternoon delight!” It was no small task to contain my bemused laughter.
On a completely unrelated note, where can you go ice skating amongst families of all ethnicities, packs of teenage orthodox Jews, and ice dancing hip-hop kids, all while listening to Dancehall, Reggae, and Dub? Wollman Rink in Prospect Park, that’s where. We’ve added our element to this strange dynamic two weeks running, stumbling our way awkwardly around the rink in a desperate attempt to avoid personal injury while dodging those who are even less adept on their skates than we are. I stopped for a minute to take in the scene, and for that one moment, things seemed right in the world. They seemed right in Brooklyn, anyway.
(See more ice skating pictures here.)
And now, a list of some of the stranger songs that have been on frequent rotation in my mental jukebox lately, in no particular order:
- The Andy Griffith Theme
- Fakin’ It to Makin’ It, a song JR made up once.
- You’re Gonna Miss My Lovin’ by Lou Rawls
- The Meow Mix Song (Meow Meow Meow Meow…)
- Are You Ready for a Party? by Hank Williams, Jr.
- Everybody’s Talking by Harry Nilsson

Apparently, so do I!
“We’ve added our element …dodging those who are even less adept on their skates than we are.”
